Stepping out in faith to be Christ to others in the world

Meet Our Pastor

Reverend Barry Blakley is a life-long Methodist and over the years has served on various committees from Finance (including a stint as Church Treasurer), Evangelism, Missions, and he has been a Sunday School leader and a facilitator of Disciple Bible Study.  He is a graduate of Emory University’s Candler School of Theology and recently transferred from Covington Mill UMC in Covington, Georgia. Reverend Barry is a “second-career” pastor who left behind a 20+ year career as an organizational psychologist to enter the ministry shortly after attending Walk to Emmaus in 2010.

Pastor Barry is excited to be a part of the Spotsylvania and greater Fredericksburg community as Zion UMC actively meets local needs.  Barry’s ministry is guided by the understanding that faith is not just an individual matter, but rather a faith deeply rooted in fellowship with others and in serving others in the community.  He has extensive experience both in participating and coordinating a variety of mission activities, including his work with Gwinnett Habitat for Humanity’s home repair program called A Brush with Kindness.

Soon to be celebrating their 40th year of marriage, Pastor Barry and his wife, Cindy, have four children and five grandchildren.  Cindy is a Stephen Minister, has been involved in her own mission experiences in Gulfport, Honduras and Costa Rica.

Please stop in any Sunday to meet Reverend Blakley and hear him preach the Word!
